Sustainability‍ ‍

Locating Liberty follows individuals who are building new lives in Ghana, reconnecting with the land, and creating something meaningful for their communities.

Through stories like Freddy’s and Kwana’s, the series explores how sustainability becomes part of everyday life, not as an idea, but as something lived.

Focus Areas:

  • Sustainable living through real communities in Ghana

  • Environmental practices embedded in everyday life

  • Community resilience

  • Long-term impact

Freddy Williams - Green Earth Horizons

Freddy is working to address plastic waste in Ghana through his organization, Green Earth Horizons. Based in Takoradi, his work focuses on recycling plastics and helping clean up local waterways.

His efforts go beyond environmental impact. By creating job opportunities for young people and encouraging better sanitation practices, including the use of waste bins in public spaces, Freddy is helping build a cleaner, more sustainable community.

Kwana Strong - Rammed Earth Homes

Kwana builds environmentally sustainable homes using rammed earth construction. These homes are designed to stay naturally cool, reducing the need for air conditioning and electricity.

Her work integrates solar panels, composting toilets, and rainwater catchment systems, supporting a more self-sufficient way of living.

Beyond the homes themselves, Kwana provides job training for local workers, giving farmers and community members the opportunity to develop new skills and additional sources of income.
